Job Summary

Build and scale Spotify’s foundational Subscriptions User Understanding data platform, supporting conversion, retention, engagement, and subscriber health for 200M+ Premium subscribers. Define long-term data engineering strategy, design batch and streaming pipelines, and lead architectural decisions across multiple squads. Partner with product, engineering, data science, analytics, and platform teams, and improve data quality, governance, observability, reliability, operational excellence, and developer experience while mentoring senior engineers.

Key Responsibilities

•Define and drive the long-term data engineering strategy for the Subscriptions User Understanding domain to improve scalability, reliability, and business impact.
•Design scalable batch and streaming data platforms powering analytics, experimentation, machine learning, and subscriber experiences.
•Lead architectural decisions and establish best practices for data quality, governance, observability, reliability, and operational excellence across multiple squads.
•Design data models and platform architecture to support sustainable growth toward one billion users while balancing performance, cost, and maintainability.
•Partner with Product, Engineering, Data Science, Analytics, and Platform teams and mentor senior engineers to reduce technical debt and improve developer experience.

Key Requirements

•Experience designing, building, and operating large-scale cloud-native data platforms.
•Deep experience building reliable distributed data pipelines using tools such as Scio, BigQuery, Dataflow, GCS, SQL, Python (or similar).
•Strong understanding of modern data modeling, metadata management, governance, and data quality practices.
•Ability to balance immediate business needs with long-term architectural sustainability.
•Experience communicating effectively with engineering, product, data science, analytics, and senior leadership; mentoring engineers is a plus.
