Job Summary

Support ground control and seismic hazard management at Lucky Friday Mine by installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting underground microseismic sensors and ESG seismic monitoring networks. Install and program Campbell Scientific dataloggers and configure non-seismic geotechnical instruments (e.g., MPBX, piezometers, inclinometers, crackmeters). Perform calibrations, data validation, and keep as-built installation records, escalating out-of-range readings for review by supervising engineers while following underground hard-rock safety procedures.

Key Responsibilities

•Install, maintain, and troubleshoot seismic sensors and underground microseismic monitoring networks, including system health checks and verification of trigger thresholds and recording parameters.
•Install, program, and troubleshoot Campbell Scientific dataloggers for non-seismic geotechnical data acquisition and support additional monitoring platforms as needed.
•Install and maintain geotechnical monitoring instruments (e.g., convergence stations, MPBX, piezometers, inclinometers, crackmeters, tiltmeters, strain gauges) and prepare boreholes for installation.
•Perform zero-setting, periodic readings, calibration, and data validation across instrument types; decommission and document retired instruments as directed.
•Collect and quality-check instrument data, maintain as-built records (borehole logs, depths, sensor serial numbers, baseline readings), and assist with compliance and seismic hazard assessment datasets.

Key Requirements

•Post-secondary diploma or certifications in Computer Engineering Technology, Electronic Engineering Technology, or a closely related discipline (minimum two years post-secondary study) or equivalent qualifications.
•5+ years of progressive experience in geotechnical instrumentation, seismic monitoring, or electronic field instrumentation in underground mining or civil/geotechnical environments.
•Theoretical knowledge of geophysics and engineering principles applied to rock mass behavior, seismic wave propagation, and instrumentation response.
•Experience with ESG seismic monitoring systems (hardware installation, maintenance, troubleshooting) strongly preferred.
•Experience with Campbell Scientific dataloggers and Canary Systems monitoring software is an asset.
