Job Summary

Deliver river and flood defence civil engineering schemes across the UK, from concept through to detailed hydraulic designs. Prepare and support business cases, develop outline and detailed designs for flood projects, and work with infrastructure clients to design hydraulic structures such as culverts, weirs, outfalls, and scour protection. Contribute to contractor schedules/specifications, carry out asset inspections, and support supervision of construction works within WSP’s Sustainable Water Management team.

Key Responsibilities

•Deliver a wide variety of river and flood related civil engineering schemes.
•Prepare and support business cases for works to protect from flooding.
•Develop outline and detailed designs for flood projects, including hydraulic systems, flood defences, drainage, and ancillary structures.
•Design hydraulic structures (e.g., culverts, weirs, walls, outfalls, scour protection) with wider infrastructure clients across highways, rail, and property.
•Prepare work schedules/specifications, carry out asset inspection works, and supervise construction works (supported where required).

Key Requirements

•Degree qualified in civil or flood risk engineering.
•Post-degree experience in hydraulic designs for river or flood defence works.
•Knowledge of flood and river diversion design principles and solutions.
•Experience using CAD or Civil 3D.
•Site experience, ideally in a site supervision role.
