Key Responsibilities

  • •Own Pleo’s semantic layer: define, structure, locate, and enforce metric definitions, aiming for canonical definitions like MRR, churn, and transactions.
  • •Set and drive data modeling standards for clean, layered, well-tested dbt architectures across all domains.
  • •Build and run an Analytics Engineering community of practice through code reviews, shared patterns, documentation, and onboarding.
  • •Own AI-native development practice for writing, reviewing, and migrating data models using AI coding tools in a governed context.
  • •Lead responsible, AI-augmented migration and design data models/metric definitions for reliable AI consumption without human intervention.

Key Requirements

  • •Deep, demonstrated expertise in dbt and analytics data modeling standards across a function, including defending trade-offs and enforcing them through influence.
  • •Deep BigQuery and SQL expertise, including performance and cost considerations for complex analytical domains.
  • •Hands-on experience owning a semantic layer (e.g., LookML, dbt MetricFlow, or equivalent) with a strong view on metric consistency at scale for AI consumption.
  • •AI-native development practice in a data engineering context using AI coding tools (Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or equivalent) with a clear understanding of added value and risk.
  • •Proven experience setting standards across teams you don’t directly manage, and credible engagement on data contracts and semantic layer strategy with backend engineers and senior stakeholders.
