Key Responsibilities

  • •Contribute to Nova’s query execution engine and distributed compute layer, including query planning, storage formats, encoding/compression, caching, and cluster resource management.
  • •Implement new capabilities for additional warehouse-imported data types (e.g., metrics, profiles, dimensions) and support sustained concurrent query workloads.
  • •Lead projects to reduce infrastructure costs while maintaining or improving latency and throughput.
  • •Improve reliability and operational excellence by identifying failure modes, driving durable fixes, participating in on-call, and raising detection/response quality.
  • •Lead multi-week to multi-month technical projects, contribute via design docs and code reviews, and collaborate with Product, Middleware, Data Pipeline, and other engineering teams.

Key Requirements

  • •3+ years of backend or infrastructure engineering experience with exposure to distributed data systems.
  • •Hands-on experience building or extending distributed data systems such as query engines and columnar storage.
  • •Experience improving cost or performance on cloud infrastructure (compute, storage, network).
  • •Strong computer science fundamentals in distributed systems, data structures/algorithms, and concurrency/performance optimization.
  • •Production experience with modern cloud infrastructure and tools such as AWS (S3, DynamoDB, EC2), Kafka, Redis/ElastiCache, Kubernetes, and Terraform, plus proficiency in Java, C++, or Python.
