AI Engineer: Voice Designer focusing on back-end TTS integration and linguistic optimization to power Dialpad's next-generation AI voice agents. Work within the Speech Team to bridge speech science and product engineering, shaping voice personas, prompts, and UI-exposed voice attributes in a hybrid Kitchener, Canada role.

Key Responsibilities

•TTS backend implementation: Own the integration and optimization of multiple TTS vendor APIs while leading research and prototyping for open-source or in-house TTS architectures.
•Linguistic optimization: Apply phonetics and sociolinguistics to maximize naturalness, including SSML orchestration and pronunciation handling.
•Conversational turn design: Create context-specific utterances to optimize turn handling and build caller trust during agentic decision processes.
•Prompt & persona management: Design and manage LLM and TTS prompts and parameters to define agent personalities across industries.
•UI parameter exposure: Architect the logic to expose voice attributes (speed, pitch, tone, style) to the product UI for customer customization.

Pay and Benefits

Salary: CAD 145,000 - 172,500 annually

Key Requirements

•3+ years of experience in Speech Synthesis (TTS) or Voice Design, with hands-on work with frameworks like NVIDIA NeMo, ESPnet, or Coqui
•Strong Python programming skills and experience with deep learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch)
•Linguistic background with knowledge of phonetics, prosody, and syntax
•Experience crafting and evaluating prompts for LLMs (system, few-shot) and managing structured prompt templates
•Backend engineering: building production-grade APIs and integrating multi-vendor services in a cloud environment (GCP preferred)
