Job Summary

Lead the development and implementation of a trade regulatory compliance program for energy trading. Oversee monitoring and enforcement review across regulators including FERC and CFTC, analyze trader transactions for non-compliance risk, and implement monitoring for ISO/RTO market rules. Partner with Risk, Technical Training, Legal, and other teams to deliver training, report compliance metrics to senior management, and support internal investigations. Based in Houston with periodic travel.

Key Responsibilities

•Build and expand NRG’s trade compliance program for energy trading regulated by authorities such as FERC and CFTC.
•Monitor and evaluate enforcement actions and penalties related to energy trading activity.
•Review and analyze trader transactions to identify non-compliance risk and advise on improvements to trading behavior.
•Implement and oversee monitoring programs for asset bids and trading patterns to ensure ISO/RTO market rule compliance.
•Partner with Legal and other teams to conduct internal investigations and to plan and implement training programs; report compliance metrics to senior management.

Travel: Low travel

Key Requirements

•Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field of study.
•Minimum of eight (8) years of directly related experience in energy trading or a compliance role at an exchange, ISO/RTO, or governmental regulatory oversight body.
•Knowledge of trading operations, trade practices, and/or rules and regulations for trading on a Designated Contract Market (DCM).
•Understanding of swaps and derivatives in the energy industry and how trading may create the appearance of market manipulation.
•Detailed knowledge of major external regulations applicable to energy trading (e.g., Commodity Exchange Act, FERC Order 670).
