Key Responsibilities

  • •Own parts of the CLI workspace runtime that backs dbt Studio and the VS Code extension, including migrating users off a legacy IDE and enabling asynchronous background agent runs.
  • •Design and build agent-facing experiences such as streaming responses, transparent tool calls, diff review, and rich conversational analytics outputs.
  • •Extend dbt into other developer surfaces with MCP integrations so dbt projects work directly in AI clients like Claude and Codex.
  • •Lead well-scoped end-to-end projects by writing plans, partnering with design and product, shipping in two-week increments, and measuring results.
  • •Share oncall and customer support responsibilities for these surfaces and mentor engineers earlier in their careers.

Key Requirements

  • •5+ years building production software with senior-level project ownership over multi-month efforts involving multiple people.
  • •Deep Python experience with exposure to TypeScript and React to move across the stack without waiting for handoffs.
  • •Built and maintained a developer-facing tool relied on by other developers (e.g., IDE, editor extension, CLI, SDK, LSP, or data tool).
  • •Comfort shipping operationally: APIs, Kubernetes, Postgres, and observability, with ownership when issues occur.
