Own the search infrastructure behind Ask Seeking Alpha, a financial intelligence platform powered by LLMs. Build and improve hybrid (keyword + semantic) search over Elasticsearch, integrate OpenAI embeddings for vector search within a RAG retrieval layer, and tune relevance and evaluations to maximize answer quality. Optimize Elasticsearch for low-latency performance and develop Python (FastAPI/Asyncio) backend services that power query building and result processing.

Key Responsibilities

•Design and implement hybrid search strategies combining keyword matching and semantic search.
•Tune search relevance by building systems to measure and improve how well the engine answers queries (using evaluation tools like LangSmith).
•Manage vector search and RAG retrieval integration by indexing documents and integrating OpenAI embeddings into Elasticsearch.
•Optimize Elasticsearch queries and index settings to achieve low latency for complex, filtered queries.
•Develop and maintain Python backend services that build queries and process results using FastAPI and Asyncio.

Key Requirements

•5+ years of production experience working with search engines (Elasticsearch), including indices, analyzers, and mappings.
•Understand lexical (keyword) vs vector (meaning) search and when to use each.
•Strong Python 3.10+ experience, including async/await and building APIs.
•Design data schemas for efficient search retrieval (structure JSON documents for retrieval).
•Comfort with asynchronous Python backend development and Elasticsearch-based retrieval integration.
