Key Responsibilities

  • •Collect data and perform house checklists in feed conversion houses and brood feed conversion houses, including weighing birds, feeding according to schedules, and recording data via paper and/or computer/tablet.
  • •Check bird heart rate and blood oxygen using a pulse-oximeter following accepted protocols, monitor controls/thermostats for temperature and humidity, and report problems to leads/managers.
  • •Collect data in the dissection laboratory by euthanizing birds, dissecting to accepted protocols, visually scoring defects, collecting measurements with a caliper, and entering results into a tablet or computer.
  • •Dispose of dead birds/dissect birds into incinerators as instructed, and maintain equipment by cleaning/disinfecting and performing routine housekeeping and house setup tasks.
  • •Perform additional duties such as collecting swab samples, cleaning/disinfecting/hauling coops, and maintaining foot bath and related sanitation supplies.

Key Requirements

  • •Must have at least 12 months of consecutive work history with one employer and no employment gaps greater than 6 months in the past 36 months (or 18 months for laid off/child or elder care).
  • •Basic computer skills for inputting dissection data via tablet.
  • •Must be willing to follow biosecurity requirements (showering, changing clothing/footwear) and sign agreements for avian species animal welfare/biosecurity guidelines.
  • •Must be willing and able to meet physical requirements, including regular lifting/moving up to 25 pounds and occasional up to 50 pounds (and other stated physical demands).
  • •Applicants with previous agricultural or production experience are preferred.
