Key Responsibilities

  • •Design, implement, and test a strategy for coupling NeuralGCM with the chosen ML ocean model, including working with JAX/TPU implementations.
  • •Design approaches to decompose physical parameterizations/constraints into physics-encoded parts and learnable parts that generalize to unseen climates.
  • •Present results at major AI and climate modeling conferences and publish in peer-reviewed venues.
  • •Contribute to open-source code development with daily team meetings, code reviews, and design documents, including collaborating with external partners.
  • •Mentor postdocs and interns.

Key Requirements

  • •Substantial experience building and deploying a relevant ML application in a practical or academic research setting, with collaborative coding practices in Python.
  • •Ph.D. in computer/computational science, applied math/statistics, atmospheric science, or a related geophysical science, with at least one accepted conference paper or peer-reviewed first-authored publication using ML.
  • •Demonstrated communications skills.
  • •Experience with physically-based atmospheric/oceanic (or related) model development (preferred).
  • •Experience writing ML code in JAX (preferred).
