Job Summary

Provide technical leadership and coordination to support Papua New Guinea’s National Department of Health in developing the country’s first evidence-based National Strategic Plan for Viral Hepatitis (2027–2032). Conduct a situational assessment, convene a national Viral Hepatitis Working Group, and lead stakeholder consultations. Produce a costed five-year strategy, an operational implementation plan with milestones, and a monitoring & evaluation framework, then support validation, endorsement, and dissemination.

Key Responsibilities

•Conduct a situational assessment of viral hepatitis in PNG, including epidemiology, existing interventions, vaccination coverage, diagnostic capacity, and treatment/supply landscape, and identify data gaps.
•Establish and convene a national Viral Hepatitis Working Group and facilitate stakeholder consultations to align on vision, goals, objectives, and priority interventions.
•Develop a costed Five-Year National Strategic Plan for Viral Hepatitis (2027–2032/2027–2031 drafts) aligned with WHO guidance and the global hepatitis elimination agenda.
•Propose a costed operational implementation plan with annual milestones, resource mobilization strategy, and a monitoring & evaluation framework (indicators, targets, data sources, responsible agencies).
•Support validation, endorsement, dissemination, and provide the final report and deliverables, with WHO Country Office technical assistance as needed.

Salary: USD 499 daily

Key Requirements

•Advanced university degree in Medicine (MD, MBBS), Public Health, Health Policy, or a related field.
•At least 7 years of work experience in public health programme planning or communicable disease programme management at international level.
•Experience developing or revising national strategies, guidelines, policies, or technical documents, including working with a National Department of Health and multiple stakeholders.
•Strong technical knowledge of public health strategic planning, programme design, and monitoring.
•Expert knowledge of English; previous experience on hepatitis strategic planning is an asset.
