Key Responsibilities

  • •Progress your own caseload, moving each file from receipt of papers to resolution of costs.
  • •Review cases proactively to formulate an initial costs strategy and settlement parameters.
  • •Prepare points of dispute and consider replies; identify and document strengths and weaknesses in your case and the opponent’s claimed costs.
  • •Use the telephone to discuss, put forward arguments, and negotiate settlement of costs while updating clients on progress.
  • •Handle correspondence within SLAs and support reviews, including instructing counsel and attending detailed assessment hearings and mediations (remote and in person).

Key Requirements

  • •Ideally have experience as a junior costs negotiator handling your own caseload for either claimant or defendant; full training is provided without it.
  • •Degree and/or LPC and/or ALCD.
  • •Knowledge of the Detailed Assessment process and relevant CPR provisions relating to costs.
  • •Good telephone negotiation skills and an understanding of current cost case law and insurance litigation practice and process.
  • •Proficient IT skills in Microsoft packages, with the ability to plan and prioritise workloads and make decisions using initiative.
