Key Responsibilities

  • •Define architecture and operational standards for Honeycomb’s managed services (RaaS and private cloud) across multiple AWS accounts and regions.
  • •Architect Terraform modules, Helm charts, and deployment automation that other engineers build on.
  • •Lead senior incident command for managed services, resolving novel high-stakes infrastructure and observability issues and driving post-incident improvements.
  • •Shape OpenTelemetry ecosystem strategy, represent Honeycomb in OTel SIGs, and build reference architectures and integration guides.
  • •Act as technical backstop for Solutions Architects and strategic deals, providing infrastructure credibility through live production troubleshooting and architecture reviews.

Key Requirements

  • •9+ years in engineering, SRE, infrastructure, DevOps, or equivalent, with Staff-level technical scope and impact.
  • •Deep hands-on Kubernetes experience, including deploying and operating production clusters at scale (EKS strongly preferred).
  • •Strong AWS expertise (EC2, EKS, ECS, ALB/NLB, VPC, PrivateLink, IAM, S3, Route53) with multi-account architecture design and cost optimization.
  • •Infrastructure as Code mastery with Terraform and Helm (Chef/Ansible also mentioned).
  • •Deep observability and OpenTelemetry expertise, including instrumentation lifecycle and public ecosystem leadership.
