Job Summary

Support the Resident Engineer on construction management projects by performing inspection and construction engineering activities. Monitor construction for compliance with plans, specifications, and applicable Caltrans/industry standards, and inspect items including traffic control, earthwork, drainage, utility relocation, stormwater pollution prevention, and roadway/pedestrian/bike facilities. Collect and analyze field data, use test equipment and survey instruments, resolve plan/specification interpretation differences, and document findings through technical reports and complete project documentation.

Key Responsibilities

•Collect, compile, and analyze field and technical inspection data from surveys, plans, blueprints, and reports.
•Use survey instruments, metering devices, and test equipment to perform inspections for conformance with standards and permits.
•Provide technical assistance and guidance to support proper inspection, construction, and functioning of facilities and infrastructure.
•Verify load calculations, change orders, and interpretations of contract plans and specifications; resolve differences in interpretation.
•Monitor project phasing and contractors’ work for quality control and document progress, issues, and inspection findings.

Key Requirements

•Minimum of 0-2 years of experience.
•Working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and material.
•Understanding of public construction contracts on Caltrans right of way.

•Valid CA driver's license and ability to drive to construction sites.
