Key Responsibilities

  • •Perform individual switching, flagging, coupling, uncoupling, and brake setting.
  • •Maintain constant watch over the assigned area and equipment for hazards, malfunctioning/defective equipment, and track obstructions.
  • •Plan rail car movements and provide directions to the locomotive operator.
  • •Set track switches properly; set out and pick up railcars accordingly.
  • •Judge braking and stopping distances to provide proper radio signals and provide point protection during train movement.

Key Requirements

  • •Secure and maintain a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC).
  • •Read and understand all Standard Operating Procedures and complete required checklists.
  • •Communicate with coworkers and the locomotive operator while maintaining constant awareness of surroundings.
  • •Be able to work outside in extreme cold and hot conditions.
  • •Occasional lifting of up to 50–100 lbs.
