Key Responsibilities

  • •Assign ICD-10-CM and CPT codes for outpatient (OP) and emergency department (ED) records and capture ED charges.
  • •Follow official coding guidelines and use Coding Clinic/CPT reference materials to ensure coding accuracy and completeness.
  • •Validate charges by comparing them to health record documentation and applying modifiers when applicable.
  • •Use retrospective edit tools to address coding and documentation issues and track items needing follow-up.
  • •Investigate claims denials/appeals and collaborate with CDI, physicians, and Revenue Cycle Management to resolve billing and utilization issues.

Key Requirements

  • •CPC or AHIMA certification.
  • •Extensive knowledge of healthcare revenue cycle systems.
  • •Analyze routine outpatient (RO) physician/provider documentation to determine principal/secondary diagnoses and procedures.
  • •Use encoder software applications, including online tools and references, to assign ICD diagnosis and procedure codes.
  • •Adhere to official coding guidelines with accuracy and completeness based on documentation.
