Job Summary

Design, build, and operate MongoDB’s internal and customer-facing observability platform, covering metrics, logs, traces, and alerts. Lead architecture for mission-critical distributed systems with strict SLOs for security, durability, availability, and performance. Scale high-cardinality data processing and collaborate with SWE, Product, and SRE teams to improve instrumentation. Own critical components, handle production escalations, mentor engineers, and drive long-term technical roadmap.

•Architect and implement components for the mission-critical observability platform, driving performance, scalability, cost-efficiency, resiliency, and maintainability.
•Design observability improvements that help MongoDB engineers and customers diagnose production root causes quickly and accurately.
•Own areas of the Observability Team’s codebase and maintain high standards for security, durability, availability, performance, and quality.
•Handle production customer escalations from the Technical Support team and coach teammates to resolve issues effectively.
•Lead larger initiatives across the company, advise Product Management on technical direction and dependencies, and contribute to testing and correctness through unit/integration tests.

Key Requirements

•Minimum 10 years designing, programming, debugging, and tuning distributed and/or highly concurrent mission-critical software systems using C/C++/Java/Rust.
•Experience running latency-sensitive, high-throughput systems.
•Strong systems fundamentals, including multi-threaded programming and performance profiling.
•Familiarity with database internals or building core components for data processing systems.
•Familiarity with observability ecosystem and best practices, with excellent technical communication and a desire to mentor engineers.
