Job Summary

Role focused on designing, implementing, and deploying robust state estimation systems for autonomous heavy machinery. You will fuse multi-sensor data (LiDAR, radar, cameras, GNSS when available) and develop filter-based and optimization-based estimators to estimate velocity, position, and angular rates, enabling reliable perception, localization, and control in harsh environments.
Location: Berlin, Potsdam
Workplace: Onsite
Employment Type: Full time
Job Function: Software Engineering

Key Responsibilities

  • •Design and implement state estimation pipelines for autonomous machines, including robust and fail-safe estimation of local position, velocity, angular velocities.
  • •Fuse data from multiple sensors (e.g. wheel odometry, LiDAR, radar, IMUs, GNSS, cameras) using probabilistic frameworks.
  • •Develop and maintain filter-based and optimization-based estimators (e.g. EKF/UKF, factor graphs, smoothing).
  • •Model sensor noise, biases, and failure modes; design estimators robust and fail-safe to partial sensor dropout and degraded conditions.
  • •Collaborate closely with robotics software, SLAM/localization, perception, and controls engineers to ensure system-level performance.

Key Requirements

  • •Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • •Hands-on experience with state estimation algorithms such as Kalman Filters (e.g. EKF), optimization based methods (e.g. with GTSAM, Ceres, g2o) or particle filters.
  • •Familiarity with typical LiDAR odometry algorithms and libraries.
  • •Experience estimating vehicle motion states (e.g. velocity, position, angular rates) by fusing multiple real robotic sensors, and understanding their limitations in the field.
  • •Proficiency in C++ and/or Python for robotics software development.
