Key Responsibilities

  • •Deliver full lifecycle cable engineering packages from feasibility and concept design through detailed design, installation support, and commissioning.
  • •Review complex HVAC and HVDC cable system designs, including route development, burial risk assessments, and calculations (thermal, electromagnetic, mechanical).
  • •Undertake cable rating and system studies such as ampacity, short circuit forces, thermal stability, and electromagnetic interference analysis.
  • •Conduct cable pulling, jointing, cleating, and installation feasibility studies.
  • •Collaborate with civil, structural, substation, and overhead line teams, and support third-party inspections and commissioning activities while ensuring IEC/CIGRÉ/National Grid TP compliance.

Key Requirements

  • •Strong Cable System Design Engineering experience for HV/EHV transmission and distribution projects, with essential FEED experience.
  • •Good understanding of onshore cable routing, including cable pulling/mechanical forces, burial risk assessments, and protection strategies.
  • •Experience with Quality, Inspection & Test (QIT) of cables and associated systems.
  • •Knowledge of national and international standards, including IEC, CIGRÉ, and National Grid TPs.
  • •Minimum HNC qualified in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or related discipline (NG Certified – CDAE and CEng/working towards chartership desirable).
