Design and operate Compass’s foundational data layer for real estate transactions, focusing on database, caching, and streaming systems that must be fast, correct, and isolated across thousands of tenants. Key Responsibilities

•Design and operate the database and caching fleet (RDS/Aurora PostgreSQL, ElastiCache Redis/Valkey, DynamoDB), including replication, failover, capacity, and engine strategy.
•Build multi-tenant data isolation in the data layer and ship tenant-safe SDKs in Go, Java, and Python.
•Own production database upgrades at fleet scale, coordinating engine version bumps and Terraform state changes with zero customer impact.
•Build and scale Kafka/MSK streaming infrastructure, including topic architecture, consumer patterns, and blue/green deployments.
•Develop deep observability for the data layer with SLI dashboards and tenant-dimensioned telemetry, and partner to resolve critical production incidents.

Pay and Benefits

Salary: USD 176,000 - 196,100 annually

Key Requirements

•5+ years building and operating distributed systems, with production-scale depth in PostgreSQL (or similar) on AWS.
•Build shared tooling such as SDKs/client libraries/platform APIs to make infrastructure safe and accessible for non-infrastructure engineers.
•Use trade-off thinking to choose application-enforced boundaries versus hard infrastructure locks, and explain when the approach should change.
•Write Go (or ramp quickly) and be comfortable with Terraform, Kubernetes, and IAM-heavy AWS environments.
•Lead cross-team operational programs including change management, migration coordination, and rollback planning beyond your own team.
