Job Summary

Join the Motors and Power Systems Research Team to design and develop next-generation high-performance Dyson motors and motor-drive technologies. You’ll work on electromagnetic and/or motor control design, creating novel single- and multi-phase motor topologies, modeling with 2D/3D transient electromagnetic FEA, and building dynamic simulation tools in MATLAB/Simulink. You’ll test and verify designs, collaborate across engineering disciplines, and communicate status to stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

•Participate in the design process for single- and multi-phase electromagnetic and/or motor control solutions to meet project requirements.
•Design and develop novel high performance electric motor topologies and/or motor control solutions meeting cost, size, weight, and efficiency targets.
•Use 2D/3D static and transient electromagnetic FEA to model brushless motor design details.
•Develop and use dynamic power system simulation tools in MATLAB/Simulink to model performance, develop control strategies, and optimize design to meet product requirements.
•Test and verify new motor drive designs, collaborate with cross-functional engineers, and communicate results and project status to stakeholders.

Key Requirements

•Minimum first degree in electrical/electronic engineering (or equivalent), preferably with a machines and drives bias, plus significant industrial experience (3+ years).
•Advanced knowledge of electromagnetic machine design theory and extensive experience using 2D/3D static and transient electromagnetic FEA, preferably Simcenter MAGNET.
•Experience designing permanent magnet motors, including knowledge of soft and hard magnetic materials and their use in electrical machines.
•Knowledge of motor control techniques for low/high speed, single-phase and multi-phase permanent magnet and switched reluctance motors.
•Extensive experience testing and verification of electric motors, primarily permanent magnet and switched reluctance types.
