Job Summary

Lead the delivery of civil and bridge engineering projects for the local government team in Cardiff. Work across the full lifecycle, from design, inspections and assessments to feasibility studies and business cases for highway structures like bridges, culverts and retaining walls. Act as Team Leader for six engineers and technicians, providing leadership, mentoring and support while helping grow the Cardiff bridges capability through collaboration with clients and regional stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

•Drive delivery of civil and bridge engineering projects across the region for local government clients, focused on highway structures.
•Contribute across the project lifecycle from design and inspection/assessment to feasibility studies and business case development.
•Design bridges and other highways structures, including bridge strengthening and repair.
•Prepare project documentation, reports, health and safety risk assessments, scheme feasibility studies, and outline cost estimates.
•Lead and mentor a team of six engineers and technicians, supporting technical excellence, collaboration, and project/financial management of schemes.

Key Requirements

•Chartered Civil or Structural Engineer status, with experience delivering civil/bridge engineering work across design and construction environments.
•Practical experience of bridge design, maintenance, and assessment.
•Experience managing bridges and structural engineering projects.
•Knowledge of DMRB and MCDHW for structural highway schemes, including proper application in your work.
•Experience applying Eurocodes and designing/assessing steel, reinforced concrete, and prestressed concrete bridge structures, with strong communication and client relationship skills.
