Job Summary

Join the Transportation team as a Bridge Inspection Trainee for the NYSDOT Region 9 area. Under direct supervision, you’ll support bridge inspection work by reviewing prior inspection reports, assisting with field-operations planning, performing inspections, and compiling inspection reports. You’ll also receive training and provide technical design and CADD support to produce accurate design-phase deliverables while ensuring compliance with DOT standards and workplace safety.

Key Responsibilities

•Review previous inspection reports and assist in planning field operations.
•Perform inspection work and compile reports.
•Provide technical design and CADD support on projects to produce designs and specifications.
•Receive directions from Project Manager, Team Leaders, and other senior staff.
•Ensure technical compliance with DOT standards and complete assigned training tasks.

Key Requirements

•High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
•0 years of relevant experience; no prior work experience and/or qualification in the job classification being trained for.
•Physically capable of continuous field work, including working at heights, climbing, carrying ladders and gear, and working in adverse weather.
•Unrestricted driver’s license valid in New York and ability to pass WSP’s motor vehicle screening.
•General awareness of drafting and design support principles plus relevant codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
