Key Responsibilities

  • •Contribute to delivery of full lifecycle cable engineering packages from feasibility and concept through detailed design, installation support, and commissioning.
  • •Review complex HV cable system designs, including route development, burial risk assessments, and thermal, electromagnetic, and mechanical calculations.
  • •Perform cable rating and system studies such as ampacity, short circuit forces, thermal stability, and electromagnetic interference analysis.
  • •Carry out cable pulling, jointing, cleating, and installation feasibility studies.
  • •Support interface activities with manufacturers, suppliers, and contractors to verify compliance with IEC, CIGRÉ, National Grid TPs, and other standards.

Key Requirements

  • •Have an Electrical Engineering degree or be HNC qualified in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related discipline.
  • •Some experience in Cable System Design Engineering for HV/EHV transmission and distribution projects; FEED experience is essential.
  • •Some experience in regulated, quality-assured environments, preferably with National Grid experience.
  • •Understand onshore cable routing, cable pulling/mechanical forces, cable burial risk assessments and protection strategies, and electromagnetic/thermal/stability analysis.
  • •Know national and international standards including IEC, CIGRÉ, and National Grid TPs (NG-TPs).
