Job Summary

Strategic leader overseeing Scale’s worldwide IP portfolio and advising on product and AI-related legal issues. You’ll craft and implement IP strategy, oversee patent processes, advise cross-functional teams on IP protection by design, negotiate cutting-edge agreements, and support the legal and product teams in advancing Scale’s business goals in a fast-evolving AI landscape.

Key Responsibilities

•Oversee Scale’s worldwide intellectual property portfolio and ensure IP protection is embedded into product design and processes.
•Develop and implement a comprehensive IP strategy aligned with Scale’s business objectives for high-quality IP development and protection.
•Oversee invention sessions, invention disclosure selection, patent drafting and filing, and patent prosecution.
•Be a subject matter expert on US and global intellectual property laws for business partners and the Legal team.
•Support drafting and negotiation of commercial agreements at the cutting edge of IP and AI.

Pay and Benefits

Salary: USD 264,800 - 331,000 annually

Key Requirements

•8+ years of experience in-house and at a top law firm, ideally both managing at least a portion of an IP portfolio and product counseling
•ability to think strategically at a high level and from details to drive complex problem solving and creative, business-forward solutions
•ability to calibrate risk and communicate business vs legal risk clearly to executive, business, and technical audiences
•roll-up-your-sleeves attitude with a low-ego approach to collaboration across the organization
•JD and member of the California in good standing
