Key Responsibilities

  • •Take long-term ownership of a high-risk production domain, including sharding and distributed-systems reliability challenges at scale.
  • •Write production reliability software (code over process) by instrumenting, refactoring, rebuilding, and optimizing components that cause issues.
  • •Partner closely with embedded teams to reduce incidents, improve recovery time, lower severity, and bend latency in the right direction.
  • •Contribute platform capabilities by identifying recurring patterns and seeding shared solutions that scale beyond the engagement.
  • •Support success through trusted relationships as a secondee, guiding teams toward shipping with more confidence and less toil.

Key Requirements

  • •Owned reliability work within large-scale distributed systems, including debugging and fixing production issues when they broke.
  • •Previously embedded with product or feature teams to deliver engineering outcomes in close partnership, not in a siloed platform role.
  • •Built real systems in Java, Go, Rust, C++, or a comparable systems language at production scale, with strong JVM/systems depth expectations.
  • •Navigated sharding, replication, failure modes, and consistency tradeoffs in real distributed systems.
  • •Proven ability to debug large codebases quickly, influence improvements without authority, and deliver more reliable and efficient systems.
