Key Responsibilities

  • •Own and develop platform infrastructure strategy, mapping requirements and making technology and architecture calls with responsibility for outcomes.
  • •Be directly involved in deciding what the engineering team works on and how work is executed; make and keep commitments.
  • •Make principled build vs. buy assessments and advocate for appropriate tools based on tradeoffs, not existing or fashionable options.
  • •Create and maintain comprehensive internal documentation and decision records; participate in architectural forums to drive organization-wide learning.
  • •Design and build foundational systems that power Astronomer’s products, ensuring reliability and performance under real production failure modes.

Key Requirements

  • •Strong distributed systems experience, including reasoning about failure modes, backpressure, and graceful degradation.
  • •Deep Kubernetes operational knowledge, including what happens in the scheduler and control loop under failure and real load.
  • •Strong Go proficiency, with experience building and shipping production systems in Go.
  • •Multi-cloud architectural decision-making across AWS, GCP, and/or Azure, including tradeoff evaluation and production ownership.
  • •Experience defining requirements and driving technology choices across an engineering organization with strong written and verbal communication.
