Key Responsibilities

  • •Review and validate underground cable designs, including conductor sizing, installation methods, shield grounding, thermal performance, and compliance with standards.
  • •Ensure company cable assets comply with regulations for medium-voltage (up to 36 kV) and high-voltage (up to 230 kV) cables.
  • •Advise on cable routing, clearances, parallel/crossing spacing, and protection methods for cables crossing pipelines, roads, and hazardous areas.
  • •Recommend grounding and bonding strategies for cable shields and sheaths to minimize circulating currents and induced voltages.
  • •Participate in root cause analysis of cable failures and recommend corrective actions/design improvements; develop procedures for assessing power cable condition; provide consulting and mentor junior staff.

Key Requirements

  • •Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university; an advanced degree is a plus.
  • •Professional Engineering certifications (e.g., chartership or PE) are preferred.
  • •Minimum 10 years of experience in design, technical assurance, and health assessment of medium/high-voltage (5kV to 230kV) power cables.
  • •Knowledge of International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) standards for power cables and accessories, including insulation, termination, and splicing technologies.
  • •Ability to manage changing priorities, proactively improve results/processes, and quickly apply newly acquired technical information.
