Job Summary

Develop a predictive multi-scale modeling framework for aluminum scrap-bed remelting in industrial furnaces. Work on high-fidelity simulations of fragment-scale melting (radiation, convection, conduction, solid–liquid evolution, and oxidation melt loss), then build a homogenized macroscopic model for full scrap beds. Validate the models against representative industrial scenarios with Constellium partners at C-TEC and EM2C/Université Paris-Saclay.

Key Responsibilities

•Develop a multi-scale modelling framework for aluminium scrap-bed remelting in industrial furnaces.
•Run high-fidelity simulations for local melting of aluminium fragments including radiative, convective and conductive heat transfer.
•Model solid–liquid interface evolution and surface oxidation mechanisms that drive melt loss.
•Create a homogenized macroscopic model linking local mechanisms to effective large-scale properties of the scrap bed.
•Validate and refine the resulting models against representative industrial scenarios with Constellium and host laboratories.

Key Requirements

•Engineering degree or a Master's degree in thermal engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, or process engineering.
•Strong interest in numerical modelling and heat transfer.
•Ability to perform high-fidelity numerical simulations of melting and evolving geometry.
•Experience/interest in modelling radiative, convective, and conductive heat transfer plus oxidation mechanisms.
•Willingness to validate modelling results against representative industrial furnace scenarios provided by Constellium.
