Job Summary

Build and evolve Amplitude’s query/compute engine that powers customer insights. You’ll design core parts of the compute API and semantic layer, unify the data model across event and non-event data, and improve performance, reliability, and scalability of query planning and execution. Partner with teams across Session Replay, Experiment, CDP, Query, and frontend, and take end-to-end ownership from design through rollout.

•Design and build core components of the query/compute engine powering analysis across the product suite.
•Evolve the compute API and semantic layer to support more generic tables.
•Unify and evolve the core data model, representing non-event data alongside event data.
•Improve performance, reliability, and scalability of query planning and execution.
•Collaborate with Session Replay, Experiment, CDP, Query, and frontend teams to shape the compute layer and take projects end-to-end from design to rollout.

Key Requirements

•Strong backend or distributed-systems engineering experience, ideally with OLAP databases, query engines, or data infrastructure.
•Experience with SQL, query planning/execution, or building APIs used by other engineering teams.
•Ability to reason about tradeoffs between flexibility, performance, and ease of use.
•Experience owning ambiguous, cross-team projects end-to-end (not just well-scoped tickets).
•Strong cross-functional collaboration skills.
