Job Summary

Join the Launch Pad Engineering team in Vandenberg to develop and support launch pad ground support equipment fluid systems for Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy. You’ll serve as the responsible and lead engineer for pad fluid systems, troubleshoot issues using engineering fundamentals and instrumentation, and direct technician crews during build campaigns. You’ll also drive functional automation and continuous upgrades to launch pad hardware, software, and procedures, including presenting engineering data to U.S. government agencies.

Key Responsibilities

•Serve as the responsible engineer for one or multiple launch pad fluid systems, including compressible, incompressible, and/or cryogenic fluid systems.
•Use heat transfer, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, controls, and instrumentation knowledge to troubleshoot issues across launch pad systems.
•Direct a technician workforce for design, build, troubleshooting, maintenance, upgrades, and operational procedures.
•Develop and improve functional automation for the fluid systems you’re responsible for, and drive continuous improvements through cross-team collaboration.
•Serve as lead engineer during pad design, construction, and activation, and represent SpaceX by presenting certification packages and engineering data to U.S. government agencies.

Key Requirements

•Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, chemical engineering, physics, or other engineering discipline.
•1+ years of professional experience working with fluid, mechanical, or low voltage electrical systems.
•Experience using and troubleshooting control systems for remote operations and instrumentation feedback.
•Experience using SOLIDWORKS, Siemens NX, or similar CAD software.
•Experience testing and operating with or around hazardous systems (high pressure, high energy, hazardous gases or fluids).
