Job Summary

We are seeking a Safety Transparency Editor to own the editorial quality of OpenAI’s safety transparency artifacts and systems. You will craft crystal-clear explanations of highly technical safety topics for external audiences, shape narrative structure, determine what context and evidence is needed, and build AI-assisted workflows to scale public-facing safety communications.

Job Function: Content & Editorial (Writing/Editing)

Key Responsibilities

•Serve as the narrative driver for system cards and related transparency artifacts from initiation through publication.
•Translate technical findings into public-facing materials in collaboration with Safety Programs, researchers, evaluators, policy experts, and legal and communications teams.
•Write clear, precise explanations of highly technical safety topics for external audiences without sacrificing rigor or nuance.
•Shape editorial structure and narrative arc of transparency artifacts, ensuring accurate communication of what OpenAI has done and where uncertainty remains.
•Improve repeatable editorial processes, templates, and publication workflows, and build AI-assisted workflows to improve consistency and efficiency.

Pay and Benefits

Salary: USD 284,000 - 315,000 annually

•Excellent writing and editing skills with the ability to explain highly technical safety topics to external audiences without sacrificing precision.
•Strong editorial judgment to identify what context is necessary, what caveats should be highlighted, and where supporting evidence is needed.
•Experience shaping narratives and structures for complex, cross-functional projects and publishing workflows.
•Ability to collaborate with safety researchers, policy experts, legal teams, and communications partners to translate findings into public-facing materials.
•Comfort with leveraging AI tools to accelerate drafting, synthesize materials, and create scalable editorial processes.
