Key Responsibilities

  • •Contribute to full lifecycle cable engineering packages from feasibility and concept through detailed design, installation support, and commissioning.
  • •Review complex HV cable system designs, including route development plus thermal, electromagnetic, and mechanical calculations.
  • •Perform cable rating and system studies (ampacity, short circuit forces, thermal stability, and electromagnetic interference analysis).
  • •Carry out cable installation-related feasibility studies including pulling, jointing, and cleating.
  • •Support third-party inspections and FAT/SAT, installation, and commissioning, including interface activity with manufacturers, suppliers, and contractors for standards compliance.

Key Requirements

  • •Electrical Engineering Degree or HNC qualification in Electrical Engineering/Power Systems (or related).
  • •Some experience in Cable System Design Engineering for HV/EHV transmission and distribution projects, with FEED experience essential.
  • •Experience working in regulated, quality-assured environments, preferably with National Grid experience.
  • •Knowledge of onshore cable routing; cable pulling and mechanical forces; burial risk assessments and protection strategies; electromagnetic, thermal, and stability analysis; and cable cleating and short circuit restrain.
  • •Familiarity with national and international standards including IEC, CIGRÉ, and National Grid TPs (with tools like CYMCAP, WinCable, AutoCAD, Revit, GIS, and mechanical simulation tools).
