Location: Austin, New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Seattle
Workplace: Hybrid
Employment Type: Full time
Job Function: Energy & Utilities Operations

Key Responsibilities

  • •Own the electrical design of the machine’s power path, including the DC bus, inverter, motor drive, and amplifiers for magnetic bearings around the rotor.
  • •Specify and integrate high-speed hermetic motor drive systems, addressing switching, thermal, bearing-current, and insulation constraints.
  • •Design power and protection schemes for test benches and the load bank so the machine can run at full rating with absorbed or regenerated output.
  • •Drive electrical scope completion through EMC, harmonics, and arc-flash to an installation that is safe to work on and safe to sign off.
  • •Own electrical safety in the test cell, including safe procedures for technicians and test engineers working around live buses and stored energy.

Pay and Benefits

Salary: USD 210,000 - 260,000 annually
Equity and Bonus:Equity

Key Requirements

  • •Designed a high-power converter or motor drive that was built and successfully drove a real load on first use.
  • •Integrated a motor drive with a motor designed by someone else and resolved drive effects on the machine and shared bus.
  • •Troubleshot EMC, harmonics, or bearing-current issues to root cause rather than relying only on added filtering.
  • •Wrote electrical safe work practices and enforced them with technicians and engineers.
  • •Powered up a test cell or first-of-a-kind installation and determined it was safe to close the breaker.
