Job Summary

Lead the character animation post-production team by bridging production goals and creative excellence. Serve as the primary mocap craft expert, providing technical guidance and career mentorship while ensuring world-class quality and anatomical principles. Create game-ready motion-edited or hand-keyed animations for gameplay and cinematics, improve the animation pipeline using JIRA/Git with scripting tools (HSL, Python, SQL), and partner with leads on motion capture setups and developer rigs. Onsite in Montréal at least 3 days/week.

Key Responsibilities

•Act as the primary subject-matter expert for the post-production team, providing ongoing technical guidance and actionable feedback to junior and mid-level animators.
•Evaluate post-production deliverables from a craft perspective, ensuring top technical quality and adherence to anatomical principles.
•Create game-ready motion-edited or hand-keyed animations for gameplay and cinematics that follow project-specific styles and anatomical principles.
•Contribute to the animation pipeline by developing innovative solutions using JIRA/Git and scripting (HSL, Python, SQL) to automate tasks and optimize workflows.
•Collaborate with leads to architect motion capture shoot setups and prepare character animation rigs; serve as post-production point of contact for dev teams from pre-production through delivery.

Key Requirements

•5+ years of industry experience, including 2+ years in direct people management or team leadership, and a professional demo reel showing mastery of animation principles and advanced mocap workflows.
•Proven track record leading or mentoring artists, with passion and empathy to guide their professional development.
•Expert-level proficiency in Autodesk Maya, Motion Builder, Unreal Engine, and Vicon Shogun, including experience with complex character rig setups.
•Proficiency in Python (or other scripting languages) for pipeline automation and tool development.
•Ability to think critically and develop creative technical solutions for unique animation challenges.
