Key Responsibilities

  • •Set the technical direction for Venmo’s identity platform, owning complex problems across authentication, authorization, identity verification, and fraud risk systems.
  • •Partner with PayPal platform and security teams to align identity standards, reusable infrastructure, and cross-org initiatives.
  • •Lead architectural reviews and define engineering standards to raise design quality, reliability, and security posture.

Key Requirements

  • •8+ years of relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • •Deep expertise in identity and access management, including OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SAML, and FIDO2/WebAuthn.
  • •Comfort building backend systems at scale using Python, Java, or Go, and strong intuition for threat models and attack surfaces.
  • •Experience leading technical strategy across multiple teams or organizations and shipping large-scale distributed systems.
  • •Ability to translate regulatory requirements such as KYC, AML, GDPR, and related constraints into implementable engineering decisions.
