Job Summary

Tax Manager - Director for SMBC Group EMEA leading German VAT/tax compliance, process improvement, and cross-functional collaboration. You’ll monitor German tax law changes, design and implement new product tax processes, oversee VAT returns, and drive technology-led efficiency within the tax function across SMBC EU and Düsseldorf. Hybrid/office-based in Frankfurt with global exposure.

Key Responsibilities

•Monitor tax law changes for Germany and evaluate impact for SMBC EU and SMBC DUS; design changes to existing processes
•Design with Finance teams an effective New Product Process to ensure compliance with tax policies and German tax law
•Review products proposed by business partners and assess impact; support transition of processes into run-the-bank mode
•Support EU Head of Tax by seeking technology-based solutions and improving efficiency; replace EUC files with modern technology where meaningful
•Prepare annual VAT return for Germany’s VAT group and monthly/auxiliary VAT returns
•Review input VAT methodology to ensure efficient VAT accounting for the group
•Coordinate policy and procedure updates within SMBC EU tax function
•Maintain relationships with external advisors, authorities, and Tokyo HQ; ensure alignment across the region
