Job Summary

Forterra is seeking an Autonomy Software Engineer to design, develop, and field software for autonomous robotics and automation. You’ll integrate autonomy stacks on customer hardware, collaborate with cross‑functional teams, and improve system performance across sensing, compute, and control subsystems. Travel and on‑site work in Arlington, VA or Clarksburg, MD will be required to support real‑world deployments.

Key Responsibilities

•Design, develop, and field software solutions that enable intelligent behavior in robotics and automation technologies.
•Integrate and deploy autonomy stack on customer-bound hardware platforms and validate it in real‑world conditions.
•Collaborate with end-users and cross‑functional teams to deliver new behaviors, payload integrations, and mission use‑cases.
•Analyze test results, identify issues, and drive problems to resolution with engineering teams.
•Improve the core autonomy stack by identifying performance shortfalls and implementing enhancements.

Travel: Medium travel

Pay and Benefits

Salary: USD 110,000 - 135,000

Key Requirements

•B.S. in computer science, engineering, robotics, or related field or relevant experience/show of skill
•Experience in integrating software on hardware products
•Strong programming skills in C++, Python, or Java
•Solid core software engineering skills: software design, unit testing, debugging
•Experience in software development for robotics and autonomous systems (preferred)
