Job Summary

Provide specialist public health technical support to WHO Member States in the African Region under the direct supervision of the Regional Director. Support national health system strengthening through strategy/policy advice, workplan and budget development, technical reviews and high-level data analysis, capacity building, and community outreach. Coordinate with HQ units and partners to harmonize recommendations, seek funding for new initiatives, and represent WHO in meetings to advance universal access to high-quality integrated services.

Key Responsibilities

•Provide specialist technical support in public health and advise Member States on implementing national health systems.
•Contribute to development of national strategies and policies through technical and policy advice and recommendations for strengthening public health systems.
•Develop and monitor work plans and budgets, including resource mobilization, and follow up on implementation of planned activities.
•Critically review data and provide high-level analyses and information on best practices and partners’ experiences; support proposals for health-care network expansion and social health protection mechanisms.
•Develop and conduct capacity building, conduct community outreach, coordinate with counterparts and partners, seek funding for new projects, and represent WHO at meetings.

Key Requirements

•Master’s degree in public health, or global health/international or related fields.
•At least seven (7) years’ relevant experience at national or international level in public health, monitoring and evaluation of health-related programmes.
•Demonstrated ability to write technical and scientific reports.
•Excellent analytical and writing skills, including the ability to analyze and summarize documents in the context of strategic global health issues.
•Expert knowledge of English; intermediate knowledge of French.
