Key Responsibilities

  • •Advise on the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of national strategies and plans for prevention and control of diseases with pandemic and epidemic risk, ensuring alignment with IHM strategies across WHO.
  • •Monitor and support early prevention, detection, verification, evaluation, and investigation of outbreak risks and early dissemination of relevant health information with AFRO and HQ teams.
  • •Adapt IHM policies, strategies, concepts, and tools for country-level implementation to prevent and, where possible, eliminate epidemic diseases/risks, working with partners to improve control approaches.
  • •Produce periodic reports on infectious risk activities and support information systems, facilitating integration with national health information systems.
  • •Ensure technically accurate, socio-culturally appropriate risk communication and provide technical assistance on vaccination, enhanced surveillance, infection prevention and control (including personal protection), sanitation and hygiene, improved water/nutrition, pre-positioning of medicines and supplies, and vector control.

Key Requirements

  • •First university degree in medicine and public health or a related field from an accredited/recognized institute.
  • •At least 5 years of professional experience in national planning, development, and implementation of infectious disease prevention and control, including outbreak risk management.
  • •Relevant experience with inter-agency mechanisms used to coordinate preparedness and response to health emergencies.
  • •Demonstrated knowledge of infectious diseases, including public health epidemiology, prevention/control, and clinical management in national and international contexts.
  • •Expert knowledge of French; desirable intermediate knowledge of English.
