Job Summary

Lead the rigging team for an upcoming animated feature, overseeing creation and maintenance of animator-friendly rigs for characters, creatures, props, and vehicles. Partner across Animation, Modeling, CFX, Crowd, and technical leadership to ensure rigs meet show standards, support expressive motion, and integrate cleanly into the studio pipeline. Provide rig reviews and constructive feedback, troubleshoot complex rigging issues, and mentor artists while shaping workflows, tools, and naming conventions.

Key Responsibilities

•Supervise rig development for characters, creatures, props, and vehicles to support the show’s animation style and performance goals.
•Collaborate with Animation, Modeling, CFX, and Crowd leadership to ensure rigs enable expressive, efficient, and reliable motion.
•Review rigs and provide clear, constructive feedback on control design, deformation quality, and animator usability.
•Define and refine rigging workflows, tools, validators, and naming standards with technical supervisors, Asset TDs, and Production Technology.
•Troubleshoot complex rigging issues, develop scalable solutions with TDs and R&D, and mentor rigging artists/TDs.

Pay and Benefits

Salary: CAD 170,000 - 225,000 annually

Key Requirements

•5+ years’ experience in rigging or related technical fields on feature films, high-end TV, and/or animated features, including senior/lead/supervisory experience.
•Production-proven rigging expertise in Maya, including complex character and creature rigs.
•Tools development experience using Python and the Maya API (PyQt and internal APIs experience is a plus).
•Deep understanding of anatomy, deformation, kinematics, and animator-focused control design.
•Strong communication, leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
