Key Responsibilities

  • •Own the boot path end to end across compute generations (firmware, UEFI, unified kernel image, initrd, encrypted root unlock, and handoff into running NixOS).
  • •Guarantee deterministic enumeration and full hardware availability at boot across buses, peripherals, and network interfaces.
  • •Own and maintain carrier board device trees by translating hardware pinout/pinmux definitions into DTS/DTSI/overlay changes and validating on real boards.
  • •Produce and carry forward kernel, bootloader, and BSP patches when vendor behavior doesn’t meet hardware needs, across platform upgrades.
  • •Serve as the technical liaison to the platform organization by driving issues, evaluating upstream changes, and integrating product-side work for platform releases while sustaining deployed generations with security patches.

Key Requirements

  • •4+ years of professional software engineering with substantial embedded Linux platform, board support, or kernel-adjacent integration experience.
  • •Deep understanding of the embedded Linux boot chain (firmware/bootloader stages, UEFI, kernel/initrd, kernel command line, and root filesystem mounting).
  • •Device tree fluency: read and modify DTS/DTSI/overlays to match custom hardware pinout/pinmux.
  • •Ability to read, patch, and debug kernel and BSP source in C, with proficiency in Rust or C++ for dependent userspace services.
  • •Comfort debugging real hardware using serial consoles/boot logs, dmesg, and reading schematics/datasheets to diagnose failures.
