Key Responsibilities

  • •Provide a professional specialist service to internal and external customers using BetaCell Birmingham capabilities.
  • •Deliver bespoke precision CRISPR-Cas9 genome engineering support, including experimental design, guide RNA selection, clone isolation, and validation.
  • •Deliver bespoke stem cell differentiation service to pancreatic beta cells and stem cell-derived islets using the Akerman protocol, including consultation and optimization strategies.
  • •Train users in stem cell culture, genome editing, and stem cell differentiation methodologies, curate competency records, and provide supervision as needed.
  • •Manage Health and Safety compliance (including COSHH, GMOs, and human pluripotent stem cells), maintain standards and documentation, and supervise/mentor support staff.

  • •Substantial in-depth knowledge of SC-islet generation and their applications.
  • •Expertise providing precision CRISPR-Cas9 genome engineering support in human pluripotent stem cells, including guide RNA selection and editing strategy development.
  • •Expertise in stem cell differentiation to pancreatic beta cells and stem cell-derived islets using the Akerman differentiation protocol, including optimization of experimental design.
  • •Ability to plan, prioritize, and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously while providing user support and advice.
