Job Summary

Maintain and support National Wildlife Health Center (NWHC) facilities and grounds to enable safe, biosecure laboratory and operations in all seasons. Provide on-site maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs for critical infrastructure, including heating and air-conditioning systems (boilers, pumps, control systems) and laboratory utilities (air-pressure control, waste-water treatment, biosafety cabinets, fume hoods, autoclaves). Coordinate response timeframes for facilities alarms with leadership and facilities staff.

Key Responsibilities

•Provide on-site maintenance, grounds keeping, and repairs for critical infrastructure during normal business hours.
•Troubleshoot and perform tests when standard procedures and precedents are not available to determine necessary actions.
•Operate and maintain facility heating systems, including hot-water boilers, steam boilers, associated water-treatment systems, circulating pumps, and control systems.
•Operate and maintain air-conditioning systems, including chillers, cooling towers, circulating pumps, and control systems; disassemble, clean, inspect, repair, and reassemble equipment for service.
•Support laboratory infrastructure by operating laboratory systems and maintaining air-pressure control, waste-water treatment, biosafety cabinets, fume hoods, autoclaves, and laboratory utilities (hot/cold/deionized water, compressed air, natural gas).

Travel: Low travel

Key Requirements

•Must be a US Citizen able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
•High School Diploma.
•2+ years of training or experience with AC/heat systems, lab maintenance, and general maintenance.
•Valid driver’s license for local travel with a good driving record.
•Able to meet physical demands, including lifting equipment/supplies over 50 pounds and working outdoors in all seasons.
