Key Responsibilities

  • •Exercise independent discretion in handling property claims within designated level of authority, including servicing assigned territory and handling litigated claims when required.
  • •Contact policyholders, conduct investigations, interview insureds and witnesses, inspect damage, and prepare estimates.
  • •Evaluate information to determine coverage and total value of claim; make recommendations regarding coverage and payments; set and maintain adequate reserves.
  • •Document claim files and submit final reports for closure; identify subrogation situations and initiate appropriate action.
  • •Develop and apply estimating knowledge and attend training programs to stay current on policy changes and interpretation/new legislation; participate on Catastrophe Team when required.

Key Requirements

  • •High school diploma or GED and two years of claims handling experience, or equivalent; or high school diploma or GED with successful completion of ERIE sponsored formal education; or a bachelor’s degree.
  • •Willingness to pursue and complete Technical Learning Center Training required for the Property Adjuster role.
  • •Willingness to obtain and maintain any required licenses, including completing AIC 33 and AIC 35 (preferred).
  • •Valid driver’s license and good driving record; ability to drive/travel regularly within the assigned territory.
  • •Incumbent must live in the territory assigned (unless change is approved) and serve on catastrophe duty, including travel on short notice for periods exceeding two consecutive weeks.
