Lead Canva’s SEO growth in Japan by defining, executing, and scaling an end-to-end strategy across technical, content, and authority-building pillars. You’ll embed with the Japan team while contributing to Canva’s global SEO systems, drive measurable gains in sessions and signups, and build a high-performing local SEO team. You’ll use performance analytics, market intelligence, and emerging AI search/discovery trends to continuously adapt and grow.

Key Responsibilities

•Own the end-to-end SEO strategy for Japan across technical, content, and authority pillars, translating market insights into a high-impact roadmap tied to international growth goals.
•Build and lead a local SEO team, owning the full people lifecycle and setting goals, rituals, and feedback to grow autonomy and impact.
•Develop Japan-specific KPIs and monitor performance across sessions, signups, returning users, and visibility; communicate results and pivot based on what the data shows.
•Partner with localization and design teams to deliver culturally and search-behavior relevant content, including optimizing high-impact categories and tailoring scalable systems for local impact.
•Maintain technical SEO foundations (site speed, indexation, structured data, hreflang, mobile optimization) and oversee link-building goals and tactics, while tracking AI search/discovery trends and experimenting with AI optimization approaches.

Key Requirements

•Native Japanese speaker with business-level English.
•Deep understanding of Japan search behavior, cultural nuances, and internet user dynamics.
•Proven ability to assess markets, synthesize insights, and propose bespoke SEO strategies driven by data.
•Demonstrated track record leading successful SEO projects on large websites (500+ pages) across content, technical, and link building.
•Experience with SEO and analytics toolsets including Google Analytics, Search Console, and tools such as SEMrush and Ahrefs.
