Job Summary

Provide high-level technical, policy, managerial, and diplomatic advice to the Regional Director, ensuring smooth coordination and execution of the Office of the Regional Director’s work. Lead planning, monitoring, and quality assurance for briefs, speeches, and reports; oversee decision-making and representational deliverables; coordinate cross-cluster collaboration; and manage ORD staff, including recruitment, performance evaluations, and continuous development. Build advocacy and partnership strategies to strengthen the AFRO region’s positioning in global health.

Key Responsibilities

•Lead and facilitate development and implementation of the ORD work plan, coordinating and monitoring achievement of resulting action points.
•Provide analytical, policy, managerial, and strategic advice to the Regional Director, including monitoring implementation of WHO Governing Bodies decisions in collaboration with EPG.
•Oversee coordination of briefs, speeches, reports, and other decision-support materials, ensuring quality assurance and timely submission.
•Strengthen the AFRO region’s positioning through advocacy, communications, and partnership strategies, in close coordination with EPG.
•Provide leadership to and manage ORD staff, including recruitment, staffing, performance evaluations, and continuous development.

Key Requirements

•Advanced degree in Public Health or International Relations.
•Minimum of fifteen years of national and international experience, including at least 3 years in a senior management position at the international level.
•Provide policy and political advice to senior managers, demonstrating engagement of strategic international partnerships and alliances.
•In-depth knowledge of public and global health and international development issues, with the ability to process and communicate new public health information quickly.
•Excellent English or French with a good working knowledge of the other, plus strong writing skills in English under tight deadlines.
