Support the VA Network Edge Operations team by maintaining operational and security capabilities of network gateways and providing Tier II network engineering troubleshooting. Monitor and analyze network status using dedicated tools, respond to Help Desk escalations through phone/email/ticketing, and maintain NOC processes while recommending improvements. Maintain network knowledge in diagrams and technical documentation, perform routine device maintenance, and support incident/enterprise network operations using standards-based networking and VPN technologies.

Key Responsibilities

•Maintain operational and security capabilities of the VA network gateways.
•Provide Tier II network engineering support and troubleshoot network issues for the VA NOC.
•Respond to Help Desk escalations via phone call, email, or the VA ticketing system.
•Maintain and improve NOC processes and procedures; recommend improvements to the chain of command.
•Perform routine maintenance on network devices and services and support operational implementation projects with network architecture/engineering transition teams.

Pay and Benefits

Salary: USD 69,900 - 86,030 annually

Key Requirements

•Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field with 0–2 years of experience (5 years’ additional experience may substitute for degree).
•Must be able to pass and maintain a Tier 4 (BI) government background investigation.
•Knowledge of IP addressing and subnetting, TCP/UDP, access-control lists, DNS, and nslookup.
•Understanding (and preferably experience with) NAT, PAT routing, IPSec VPNs, Cisco CLI (routers/switches/ASAs), Palo Alto Firewalls and Panorama (GUI), PKI, and F5 Local/Global Traffic Manager.
•Experience with multi-area OSPF, BGP, and MPLS environments and familiarity with HTTP/HTTPS, SSL/TLS, DNSSEC, and SNMP.
