Key Responsibilities

  • •Own the roadmap for Bazel build rules, React Native bundling and codegen, making trade-offs between quick fixes and durable foundations.
  • •Mature Canva’s mobile release and deployment tooling, including OTA and staged rollout, to make shipping predictable.
  • •Lead staged migration of mobile repos into Canva’s monorepo, maintaining build, test, and release continuity.
  • •Set CI/CD quality gating strategy across the build pipeline to surface reliability and speed issues early.
  • •Evolve the React Native build pipeline into a shared cross-platform foundation and mentor engineers on standards for reliability.

Key Requirements

  • •Deep, hands-on experience with Bazel or comparable production build systems (e.g., Gradle, Xcode) at scale.
  • •Track record scoping and delivering complex cross-team projects such as migrations, monorepo consolidation, or build infrastructure initiatives.
  • •Strong native engineering background in iOS and/or Android, with a point of view on where cross-platform tooling helps.
  • •Experience owning CI/CD or release pipelines that other teams depend on (not just contributing).
  • •Can balance short-term delivery against long-term architecture and set engineering standards that others adopt.
